Orlando Pirates have left South African shore, en-route Spain as they step up their pre-season training tor next season.

Last season, Pirates made good use of their Spanish tactician Jose Riviero’s contacts in the country.

During that pre-season, Pirates played against three teams from three different leagues and countries. Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv, local Las Palmas of LaLiga as well as Independiente del Valle. The Buccaneers started in very encouraging fashion, with a victory against the Israelites. They then followed that up with a 3-1 win over Independiente del Valle. Their last game being a 0-0 draw.

Now after enjoying that experience, Pirates look to have stepped it up a notch ahead of the next season. This comes after an announcement from seven-time Europa League winners Sevilla, that they will be hosting the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup winners. According to the LaLiga side, this game will take place in just under a month’s time on the 15th of July.

Pirates attack tough pre-season schedule

Pirates have now since confirmed the fixture against Sevilla themselves. Furthermore, they have nailed down fixtures against Plymouth Argyle of England and Al Sadd of Qatar.

Now even though Pirates have only announced one new signing, there are believed to be at least three others. This publication already reported that Thuso Molekeki and Selaelo Rasebotja have been pictured in club regalia. Now a third and familiar face-signing has also all but been confirmed! This in the form of Thalente Mbatha

Mbatha joined Pirates on loan from SuperSport United last season, and it was widely expected he would stay on. Even though his agent, as well as various media outlets were confident it was a mere formality, time was passing without an announcement. But now, Sea Robber fans have received yet another moment of reassurance with the midfielder pictured in training.

Mbatha confirmed in pictures as second signing, happy Buccaneers?

Although an official announcement is yet to come, it seem plausible that Mbatha’s paperwork has been sorted. If not, he would be training with SuperSport rather than Pirates. This more or less confirming him as the club’s second signing after the formally announced Gilberto! check Mbatha out in training pictures below:
