Transfer News: Barcelona join transfer race to sign 23-year-old centre-back in January

Barcelona football club will most definitely remain keen on further strengthening their defensive options by signing new defenders when the transfer window opens in January.

Do remember that the Spanish LaLiga giants were quite active during the summer transfer window as they completed the signings of Oriol Romeu, Inigo Martinez and Ilkay Gundogan to strengthen their team.

However, Barcelona football club have now identified the need for defensive reinforcements and are currently on the lookout for transfer options when the window opens next year.

And if reports are anything to go by, then Barcelona football club have been linked with a transfer move for highly-rated Lille central defender Tiago Djalo when the window opens.

The 23-year-old Portugal International, who signed up for Lille after departing Serie A side AC Milan back in 2019 has been an important member of the first-team squad in recent seasons.

The young centre-back was quite involved for Lille football club during the 2022/2023 season where he scored two goals and created one assist in 26 appearances in all competitions.

But then, Tiago Djalo suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury back in March and he is yet to make any competitive appearance for Lille so far this season as he is recovering from the injury.

Despite his unavailability, Tiago Djalo is not short of transfer suitors and according to reports from Transfer News Live, the young defender is attracting interests from Barcelona football club.

The reports further claimed that Barcelona football club are really interested in Tiago Djalo and have added the young centre-back to their list of transfer targets in January.

It is believed that Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez wants to add more quality to his defensive options and he has identified Tiago Djalo as a needed addition to his squad.

But with Newcastle United also in the race to sign Tiago Djalo from Lille, it remains to be seen where the young central defender will choose to continue his football career if he eventually gets to leave Lille in 2024.
