Manchester City fans have now reacted after hearing that Simon Hooper will be involved in Saturday’s Premier League clash against Sheffield United.
The 41-year-old will be on VAR duty while David Coote officiates the game at the Etihad Stadium.

Well, the man from Swindon is not exactly the most popular figure amongst Manchester City fans after his mistake in the 3-3 draw against Tottenham.
You may recall Hooper causing major controversy at the start of December, as he denied Jack Grealish to chance to put Manchester City 4-3 ahead with seconds to go after ignoring an obvious advantage.
It caused Erling Haaland to break into a fit of rage – although the Norway international avoided any charge from the Football Association for his actions.

Of course, the situation is not entirely the same this time around, as Hooper will be on VAR duty and can therefore take his time to assess any key decisions on Saturday, although a lack of trust is strikingly evident based on how the Manchester City fans have reacted on X (previously known as Twitter).
One fan wrote “nooo” after hearing the Premier League’s announcement as another said the Citizens are “finished” – a slight exaggeration, perhaps, given the fact Sheffield United are bottom on nine points.
The announcement also confirms that Coote will be in charge – not Paul Tierney, as some previously thought.

Two other Manchester City fans also commented on the situation, with one under the impression that Pep Guardiola’s side are “screwed” – again, while there is clearly a lack of faith in Hooper, the Citizens should still have more than enough firepower to beat Sheffield United.
