Predicted Manchester United line-up v Galatasaray at Old Trafford

Manchester United host a first Champions League game since March 2022 this evening when Galatasaray come to visit.

With two home defeats from the last three games, Old Trafford is no longer a fortress. Erik ten Hag has to start again by making the stadium an intimidating place to come.

The crowd can be an asset, as seen at home to Barcelona last year. But it will hinge on the football served up by the team. After a woeful start to the season, on and off the pitch, Manchester United fans are not in the mood for another night of struggles, even if that is now the realistic expectation.

Turkish champions Galatasaray are in strong form, unbeaten in the league this season, and come to Old Trafford optimistic of a surprise win, led by prolific striker Mauro Icardi, who has 33 goals in 38 games for the club.

Manchester United predicted line-up

Erik ten Hag has to play his strongest side for this game, with Manchester United needing a win against Galatasaray after losing the opener 4-3 away at Bayern Munich. A victory could take United up into the top two positions by the end of the night.

In goal it is likely Andre Onana starts, although, not impossible that Turkish stopper Altay Bayindir could make his debut against a team he knows well.

Manchester United’s back four needs altering, amid a lack of options. This is because Sofyan Amrabat needs to move into midfield.

The solution could be to start Victor Lindelof at left-back, with Harry Maguire partnering Raphael Varane. At right-back, Diogo Dalot will continue.

This allows Sofyan Amrabat to move into midfield and partner Casemiro, providing a solid base to support the creativity of Bruno Fernandes.

In attack there is a lot of debate over Marcus Rashford. We expect Erik ten Hag to pick him, hoping the forward lifts his game for the big night under the lights.

Rasmus Hojlund will start up front again, while we expect Antony to go straight back into the starting line-up on the right wing, after returning to training, with the full backing of manager Erik ten Hag.
